In The Detroit Free Press, Betsy Sneller, an assistant professor of linguistics, says there is such a thing as a Michigan accent, even if it may be changing. “This really canonical, classic Michigan English is changing and becoming something else,” Sneller says. “But that doesn’t mean Michigan English is going away, it just means how to identify a Michigander has changed.”
